Vancouver, BC, CANADA, 23 December 2009 — Galdos Systems Inc. announced today that an exclusive distribution partnership agreement has been signed with Blue Marble Geographics. The agreement gives Blue Marble Geographics exclusive rights to distribute the Galdos CRS Registry, based on the INdicioTM Web Registry catalogue product, to the oil and gas industry.

Galdos’ INdicioTM CRS Registry provides complementary technology to Blue Marble’s coordinate conversion products, allowing users to store and use their coordinate system data. The INdicioTM CRS Registry is the base technology currently being used by Shell Oil and the International Association of Oil & Gas Producers (OGP) in their Geodetic Parameter Registry, to provide an open standards-based registry of coordinate reference systems (CRS) and units of measure definitions. Shell Oil is a customer of both Galdos Systems Inc. and Blue Marble Geographics.

“Galdos Systems is very happy to have Blue Marble Geographics as our exclusive representative for the CRS Registry in the Oil and Gas industry,” said Ron Lake, Galdos Chairman and CEO. “It is a great combination of a leading client (Blue Marble Desktop) and a leading web service (Galdos INdicioTM). We look forward to a very successful partnership with Blue Marble.”

“Blue Marble is pleased to be working with Galdos. Our expertise and experience in providing software and services such as the Galdos CRS Registry to address the challenges of securely and efficiently managing geodetic data make this relationship a great fit,” stated Blue Marble President Patrick Cunningham. “Gone are the days of Access databases and flat file tools. Companies that need secure, proprietary, efficient and scalable geodetic databases will find the coupling of the Geographic Calculator and Galdos CRS Registry to be an invaluable tool.”

Internet service will provide full aerial views
Marke Andrews, Vancouver Sun
Published: Saturday, July 19, 2008

An overhead view of Port Alberni illustrates what can happen when government works with an Internet mapping service.

The right side of the image on this page depicts what Google Earth and Google Maps showed before entering into an agreement with the B.C. provincial government: Streets are identified, and you can make out green space and built-up sections, but the map is vague on details.

On the left side of the image is what you can see with the government's help: A high-definition view in which houses and commercial buildings can be picked out and, zooming in, you can make out individual trees in all that green space.

On Friday, Agriculture and Lands Minister Stan Hagen announced GeoBC, a government organization, will provide 24/7 access to the province's geographic database in partnership with Google. This information will be available online at geobc.gov.bc.ca and from Google Earth.

This makes B.C. the first government in Canada to supply Google with access to its information.

At the touch of a computer button, residents and tourists can check out an area before hitting the road, and industry executives and entrepreneurs can scout a location to see if it's a viable place to set up shop.

A mining executive wanting to check out an area in northern B.C. can get aerial and 3-D images of the area, and also find information from GeoBC's provincial geographic warehouse about such things as mineral potential, the existing road network and transmission lines, as well as existing constraints on land use, such as wildlife habitat, first nations treaty settlement issues, and the existence of trap lines.

"A question we get asked quite a bit is, 'Where are the power lines?' " said Mark Zacharias, acting assistant deputy minister for GeoBC. "If you're going to have a development, you will need access to the grid, so this gives you that."

Zacharias said that by making this available on Google Earth, "not only will you be able to zoom in on an area and get a high-resolution view, you'll also be able to download about 600 different themes from the provincial [geographic] data warehouse."

In a statement, Hagen said that this information "is essential for decision-makers, and we hope to see this information drive innovation and new business opportunities in B.C."

Zacharias said having this information on Google "will make it that much easier for citizens, business interests, environmental groups or anyone interested in coming here to be able to look at B.C., query what they want to look at and get the answer they want."

He also said that GeoBC hopes to have 200 of the themes posted by the fall, with the full 600 themes available in early 2009.

While Friday's announcement is the first partnership between a Canadian government and Google, digital mapping expert Ron Lake expects more will follow.

"I think we'll see something like this all over the world," said Lake, CEO and chairman of Galdos Systems Inc. and an organizer of next week's GeoWeb conference, Monday to Friday at the Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue.

"With the introduction of high-resolution aerial photography, 3-D city models and ground-level photography, you can see things at a scale that matters for urban planning or urban development," said Lake.

Vancouver, BC, CANADA, June 5th, 2008 – Galdos Systems Inc. is pleased to announce the launch of the KML Validator at www.kmlvalidator.com, which was designed to help produce higher quality KML files.

Ron Lake, Chairman & CEO of Galdos Systems, Inc. says “KML is rapidly emerging as the primary global mechanism for the drawing and navigation of maps and images. Galdos Systems Inc. is thus very pleased to provide an automated KML validation engine as a public service to KML developers and users. This service will make it easier to develop and test KML tools and components, and will contribute to the increasingly wide spread adoption of KML. Galdos Systems Inc. plans additional KML support in the future, including professional validation services for KML tool developers, and a registry of KML test files.“

Galdos Systems Inc. was part of the team that submitted the KML 2.2 Specification to the Open Geospatial Consortium, Inc. (OGC®) for consensus.

With the recent OGC adoption of KML as an Open Standard, the KML Validator was created to validate KML files against a test suite for the KML 2.2 specification.

The members of the Open Geospatial Consortium, Inc. (OGC) today announced the approval of the OpenGIS® KML Encoding Standard (OGC KML), marking KML's transition into an open standard which will be maintained by the OGC. Developers will now have a standard approach for using KML to code and share visual geographic content in existing or future web-based online maps and 3D geospatial browsers like Google Earth TM.

"We are pleased to see the adoption of KML as an OGC standard," said Ron Lake, chairman and chief executive officer of Galdos Systems Inc. "We believe that this is a major step forward for the OGC and for the entire geographic information community, as it provides the first broadly accepted standard for the visualization of geographic information."

Vancouver, BC, CANADA, August 28, 2007 – Mr. Ron Lake traveled to Dubai August 6-7 and New Delhi (August 8-10) under the auspices of GIS Development to provide courses on GML, KML, GeoRSS and OGC Web Services (WRS, WFS, WMS/FPS). Mr. Lake provided two days of courses in each city. An overview and introduction to OGC and ISO standards was provided prior to Mr. Lake's arrival by Mr. Sam Bacharach (OGC) and Mr. Arup Dasgupta.

The GML course covered the basic structure of the language, the motivation for its development, and the creation of GML application schemas. The KML component focused on KML as a visualization partner to GML, and was illustrated by the use of live KML examples in Google Earth. The structure of GeoRSS and its relation to GML was presented in the GeoRSS component. An overview of the key standards for SDI, namely OGC Web Feature Service (WFS), the Web Registry Service (CSW.ebRIM) and Web Map Service (FPS version) were presented as fundamental building blocks for creating a Spatial Data Infrastructure.

Information on other Galdos courses can be found at http://www.galdosinc.com/customer-care-center/.
