Galdos is pleased to announce the successful completion and delivery of the HAZUS MASAS project (Phase I) with Natural Resource Canada on March 13th, 2012. Natural Resource Canada and the project partners expressed their satisfaction with the project outcomes and deliverables.
HAZUS  is a quantitative loss estimation method developed by the US Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS). The HAZUS-MH toolset provides a standardized approach to loss estimation that is being adopted by organizations worldwide.
MASAS  is the Multi-Agency Situational Awareness System (MASAS) initiative from Intellectual Resources Canada (IRCan) which makes it possible to share location-based situational awareness information and alerts using open standards and an open architecture.
The purpose of the project was to integrate HAZUS-MH model outputs into the MASAS architecture so that they can be discovered and used in the Emergency Management community, and to deliver a roadmap for further phases. Galdos developed, configured, and deployed the HAZUS Web-based Risk Assessment Data Management System (WRAMS) software using the INdicio Web Registry Service (WRS), which is based on OGC and OASIS open standards such as the Catalogue Service for the Web (CSW), and the ebXML Registry Information Model profile of CSW (CSW-ebRIM).
This project was funded through the Public Security Technical Program, a federally-funded program led by the Defence R&D Canada – Centre for Security Science (DRDC CSS ).
The project contributes to a broader Government of Canada effort to support the development and operationalization of MASAS capabilities. DRDC CSS is a joint endeavour between the Department of National Defence and Public Safety Canada to strengthen Canada’s ability to anticipate, prevent, prepare for, respond to, and recover from acts of terrorism, crime, natural disasters, and serious accidents through the convergence of science and technology with policy, operations and intelligence.
