In April 2016, during a visit to North America, Roel Nicolai, Vice Chairman of the Geodesy Subcommittee of IOGP, came to Vancouver and met with Ron Lake, CEO of Galdos Systems, to chat about the EPSG Geodetic Parameter Registry (http://www.epsg-registry.org/), and the value of having a CRS Registry.
Galdos recorded the interview between Ron and Roel, and has produced several video clips from the recordings. The videos have been published in the INdicio CRS Registry playlist on the Galdos YouTube channel.
Benefits of a CRS Registry
Sharing Geodetic Parameters and Data
In the first clip, Roel shares with Ron the importance of coordinate reference systems and geodetic parameters when sharing georeferenced data.
Cost of Errors in Drilling Location
In the second clip, Roel and Ron discuss the high cost of errors in the geodetic parameters for a drilling project.
Single Source of Truth for Sharing Data
In the third clip, Roel and Ron talk about the importance of data sharing, the benefits of sharing data with related companies and contractors, and about having a Registry as a single point of truth.
About the EPSG Geodetic Parameter Registry
Galdos Systems developed the EPSG Geodetic Parameter Registry for Shell Oil and the IOGP (International Association of Oil and Gas Producers), and has published a case study about the project (Shell Oil and IOGP). The EPSG Registry is an implementation of the INdicio Registry.
Galdos recently released a corporate version of the INdicio CRS Registry, which is synchronized with the EPSG Geodetic Parameter Registry. A corporate CRS Registry allows companies to maintain their own custom coordinate reference systems and transformations in addition to those managed in the EPSG Geodetic Parameter Dataset.
