001 Half Day Introduction to GML for XML-Aware Business Managers
This half-day course is designed to provide XML-aware business managers with a detailed overview of the Geography Markup Language (GML). GML is quickly becoming the key technology for all geo-spatial data formatting. This XML application enables users to deliver geographic information as distinct features, and then control how they are displayed in a Web browser. As GML is an open standard (free, easily accessible) it enables this data to be readily shared and exchanged over the Internet. Participants will come away from this course with a strong understanding of GML technology, along with knowledge of its applications.
Audience: Business Managers who are aware of the impact of XML technologies but need awareness of GML.
Pre-Requisites: Some knowledge of XML, in particular awareness of the impact of XML technologies in today’s market is required.
003 Half-Day Introduction to GML for Database Administrators, Data Developers and Software Engineers
This half-day course is designed to get you started regardless of your previous exposure to GML. Except for the first three introductory topics, this is a technical course, which assumes previous exposure to XML technologies and a working knowledge of programming languages and system modeling concepts (including UML).
The first topic is non-technical and is intended to give a conceptual picture of what GML offers and the benefits it offers over similar technologies available today. The course will provide additional detail on key XML technologies at a more technical level than was possible in “Introduction to GML for Geo-spatial Professionals”. This will include, in particular, XML Schema, XLink and XPointer.
Audience: DBAs, Developers, and Software Engineers who are up to speed on XML but seeking a speed-learning GML course.
Pre-Requisites: The course will focus specifically on how to use GML rather than on a detailed review of the specification. Participants without knowledge of XML are recommended to take the “003 Introduction to XML for Geo-spatial Professionals” prior to taking this course.
005 Full Day Intermediate GML Course for Geo-Spatial Professionals
Geographic Markup Language (GML), based on XML, is the official spatial modeling language of the Open GIS Consortium (OGC). This one-day course is designed for geo-spatial technical professionals who wish to gain applied knowledge of XML and GML. It provides participants with exposure to modeling spatial data in GML format, creating, editing and validating GML data, and transforming XML and GML data between different applications.
The course begins with a brief review of XML, followed by an introduction to GML using demonstrated examples. Each participant will then work on applications of GML using leading XML tools (XML Spy editor, XML parsers, and XSLT transformation engine). Spatial applications are derived directly from real world examples.
Audience: Geo-Spatial Technical Professionals who wants exposure to modeling and maintenance of spatial data in GML.
Pre-requisites: This is a technical course, which assumes previous exposure to XML technologies and a working knowledge of programming languages and system modeling concepts (including UML). Participants without knowledge of XML are recommended to take both the “002 Introduction to XML for Geo-spatial Professionals” and “003 Introduction to GML” prior to taking this course.
